Position Summary:
International Chemical company seeks an EHS Specialist who supports the development and implementation of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs for R&D operations. This role assists with regulatory compliance, training, incident response, and continuous improvement initiatives. The EHS Specialist works cross-functionally with laboratory and facilities teams to help maintain a safe and sustainable work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Implementation & Support:
• Assist with the planning and rollout of EHS programs and policies.
• Take ownership of specific EHS program areas such as:
o Chemical hygiene and lab safety
o Hazardous waste handling and storage
o PPE program oversight
o Emergency response and evacuation plans - Compliance & Reporting:
• Help ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations(e.g., OSHA, EPA, Cal/OSHA).
• Maintain EHS records, documentation, and training logs.
• Assist with regulatory reporting and permit tracking. - Training & Communication:
• Deliver EHS onboarding for new hires and coordinate refresher trainings.
• Develop and share safety communications and awareness materials. - Audits & Inspections:
• Conduct regular safety inspections and hazard assessments.
• Participate in internal audits and help track follow-up actions. - Incident Support:
• Assist in the investigation of incidents and near-misses.
• Contribute to root cause analysis and corrective action planning. - Cross-Functional Support:
• Partner with lab, facilities, and operations staff to ensure EHS practices are followed.
• Review EHS aspects of new projects and lab equipment setups.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field.
Experience:
- 1-3years of experience in EHS, preferably in a laboratory, research, or industrial setting.
- Familiarity with EHS management systems and common regulatory frameworks.
Skills:
- Proactive, detail-oriented, and organized.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Comfortable delivering training and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Working knowledge of basic EHS regulations and best practices.
